Summer Reads

I love finding a new book to read that I can't put down and keeps me interested.  Anything chick lit is my favourite and I like reading a book when I can somehow relate to the main character.  I love the Shopaholic series by Sophie Kinsella and all her other stand alone novels such as Remember Me, and I've Got Your Number.  She also writes under the pseudonym Madeleine Wickham, however, I can't say I enjoy those novels as much as the others.

I also really enjoyed the novels by Emily Giffin, Marian Keyes, and Jane Green.  I just picked up a new Jane Green book at Costco to read on our Mexican vacation which is coming up quick!! (yay!!) I was having no luck finding a book that I wanted to take on holiday but then I found this one.

I have read other fiction novels, The Girl on The Train by Paula Hawkins, which I REALLY enjoyed.  I did not want to put it down and when it ended, I was kinda sad. I also read Gone Girl by Gillian Flynn and that was a really good one too.  When I finished it, I purchased the other two Gillian Flynn novels, Dark Places and Sharp Objects.  I started Dark Places and got about half way and I just couldn't finish it.  It was too intense and kind of disturbing for me.  Then I started Sharp Objects and I am on page 12 or so, and I'm not sure if I want to continue.  I'm feeling like I want to be reading a chick lit again and so I decided to wait and start my new Jane Green once our holiday starts.  I don't have much time now anyways to do much reading.  Although it is nice reading right before bed, lately, I just want to close my eyes and zonk out.

There is something about curling up on a comfy couch or sitting in a coffee shop or even just sitting out on the back deck with a good read and a yummy coffee.  Perfection.

What's For Dinner?

It's Friday! Yay!  We have been so busy around here, but I have found a moment to sit outside and enjoy the beautiful weather and to do some blogging!  I have been trying to decide what to make for supper tonight...or if I even want to make supper tonight.  It is one of those days where I am busy busy busy and don't have a lot of time to think of cooking but yet I don't want to eat out or order in (trying to keep it healthy).  So I guess I will be cooking.

I found a recipe that I think will work for tonight.  Healthier Chicken Enchiladas.  I found the recipe at allrecipes.com.  I like going to this website because I can find so many variations for the same recipe, and you can decide which version you want to use depending on if you have the ingredients or the amount of time  you need for a recipe.  I searched "Healthy Enchiladas" and there were several pages on different recipes for healthy enchiladas, and I picked the one that I think my family would like.  I also always read the comments on a recipe that I'm going to make.  I like to see how other people alter the recipe to make it healthier and/or taste better.

I love having Pinterest and different recipe websites as references to find new recipes.  I like changing things up once in awhile.  Another two websites I go to are skinnytaste.com and thepioneerwoman.com.  Great recipes.

Happy Friday!

Favourite Nail Polish

It's Monday night and I'm watching the Bachelorette, doing my nails and drinking a glass of wine. :)

My favourite nail polish right now is the Revlon Colorstay Gel Envy.

I like it for several reasons:
  • It doesn't take very long to dry between coats, about 5 mins per coat.
  • The color is vibrant and shiny.
  • You only need two coats of color then one coat of the topcoat - simple.
  • It is extremely easy to remove.
  • It lasts about 6 days on my nails.
Most nail polish will last about 2 days for me. MAX.  My hands are abused daily with cleaning, pulling weeds, constant hand washing, etc, so to have a nail polish that will last around 6 days (depending on how hard I am on my hands those days) is great.  It is so frustrating to take the time to do your nails only to have them start to chip the next day.  Hate that. Hate chipped nails.  I believe you can tell a lot about someone just by looking at their nails...and shoes, but that is a whole different kind of post ;) The other choice is to get gel nails, which I try to avoid.  It lasts a long time but it is so difficult to remove and my nails always feel so brittle after removing the gel polish.  I can get it done professionally, but for me, manicures are a treat and not a regular thing as the cost can add up, and I would rather spend my money on new beauty products or clothes.  Not to mention, if I can do it myself, why pay someone else to do it?   Unless of course, I need to unwind and have some "me time".  That is simply my opinion.

So back to the Revlon Colorstay Gel Envy nail polish, I discovered it about a month ago and I only purchased three colors and the necessary topcoat.  I will definitely be purchasing more colors, and I highly recommend this nail polish.

Closet Basic - Leggings!

A basic in my closet are leggings.  They are comfy, can be casual or dressed up for a night out.  You can layer them and are great to workout in. They are fantastic when travelling because they are so comfy and flattering, not to mention easy to pack as they take up minimal space in a suitcase.  They come in different lengths; full, ankle and capri.  You can get the basic black legging, colored or patterned.  And let's not forget the jegging.

Love these shoes with leggings

There are a few general rules to wearing leggings:

  1. Skin colored leggings or white leggings, in my opinion, should be avoided.
  2. Make sure the leggings are good quality and not see through.
  3. Your top should be flowy, not tight.
  4. Your bum should be covered.  Or at least 60% covered.
I am currently on the hunt for a pair of leather leggings.  I love how they look and would be great all year long.  Dress them up with a fancy top or dress down with jean shirt or vest.
